Lessons with professor Mark Solms // Ljubljana, May 26 – 28, 2023

Mark Solms, PhD: Where mind meets brain:
Recent developments in Neuropsychoanalysis

Ljubljana, May 26 – 28, 2023

Dr. Solms will provide several presentations which cover changes in our understanding of the conscious mind, the unconscious mind, emotions, and dreaming since the time of Freud along with the implications of these changes for clinical practice.

To mark the 10th anniversary of our Course in Developmental Analytic Psychotherapy, we are delighted to present a special 3-day event: Lessons with professor Mark Solms.

Dr. Solms’ unique background as an analyst and a neuropsychologist has furthered his efforts to re-examine some of Freud’s core principles in light of what we know from neuroscience today. He will cover topics such as the emotional drives, repression, the location of the unconscious in the brain and how these new understandings can be applied to clinical practice.

LECTURES

He is a superb educator, who speaks clearly and succinctly often in simple language, making some of Freud’s complex ideas palatable and digestible. His style of teaching facilitates consolidation of concepts through his method of reviewing and linking ideas across presentations.

Friday and Saturday lectures are intended for clinicians, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, psychoanalysts and psychotherapists, but may also interest a wider audience, including neuroscientists and professionals working in areas related to the brain.

Sunday lectures with case presentations will focus on psychotherapeutical practice.

SPEAKER

Professor Mark Solms is a member of the British Psychoanalytical Society and the American and South African Psychoanalytic Associations. He is Director of Neuropsychology at the Neuroscience Institute of the University of Cape Town. He is an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists. He has received numerous honours and awards, including the Sigourney Prize.

He has published 350 scientific papers, and eight books, the latest being The Hidden Spring (Norton, 2021). He is the authorized editor and translator of the forthcoming Revised Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud (24 volumes) and Complete Neuroscientific Works of Sigmund Freud (4 volumes).

ABOUT THE ORGANISER

When founding the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (IKPP) in 1995, our vision was twofold: to offer clinical psychological and psychotherapeutic services of the highest standard to both children and adults; and for IKPP to become an educational point for trainees and specialists of clinical psychology, and psychotherapists.

Mental health care

Today, IKPP has 9 professionals working in clinical psychology and psychotherapy providing help to patients of all age groups. We consider high expertise and highly ethical principles integral to all parts of our practice.

Education and Training

Our Course in Developmental Analytic Psychotherapy has been running continuously since 2012. We also offer special guest speaker events and workshops, including Mindfulness workshops and teaching the application of the Rorschach test.

In our approach we combine concepts from psychoanalytic theories of personality, developmental theories, and other sciences focusing on human development.
